Cave houses in Mykonos
Research, design and permit issuing

Cave houses
The KS Project architectural office undertook the design, planning, and permit issuing of two cave houses in the Drapanos area of Mykonos.
In the context of the architectural proposal, our team set as fundamental goals of the creative and design process the total harmonization and integration of the houses in the natural environment of the island, in combination with the creation of spaces that show absolute flexibility. This is why we opted for a free layout of the living areas and the free placement in the center of central elements of the interior configuration, such as the kitchen island, the living room sofa, or the beds.
In addition, despite the strong element of luxury that was also an important aspect of our architectural proposal, we took care to ensure the use of natural, local, and traditional materials, both in the interior and exterior of the residences. Thus, the residences harmonize even more with the natural environment, not only in terms of volume but also in terms of the choice of construction and configuration materials.
Through a series of architectural design and decoration ideas that we proposed, an impressive single interior space was formed that accommodates the kitchen, dining room, and living room, giving the residence a feeling of discreet luxury. In addition, the clean lines, which at the same time have the necessary complexity that they draw from the natural landscape, the color palette of the materials, and above all, the way in which the light that naturally enters the residences through the large windows and skylights is utilized, contribute to the formation of a warm and calm atmosphere.
As we saw earlier, the style of the building draws elements and harmonizes perfectly with its natural landscape through the palette of materials chosen. In particular, the materials we proposed are dark wood, natural stone on the internal and external floors as well as structural elements of the external configuration of the surrounding area, matte bronze metal elements, and, of course, the cement mortar and the rough white plaster, which is a trademark of Cycladic architecture. Designed to challenge the visitor to a continuous dialogue with nature and the external environment, cave dwellings seek to create a rich and highly engaging experience for users.
Our team played a key role in all stages of the project: from the study and design of the architectural proposal for the remodeling of the building, to the renovation of the existing parts, the construction of the additional spaces, and the supervision of all the works carried out.
With offices in Athens and Mykonos, The KS Project has set a new way of approaching and implementing architectural projects, through constant cooperation with a dynamic team of architects, civil engineers, mechanical engineers, and electrical engineers, who work together for the best execution of each project, always in combination with experienced manufacturers and specialized workshops. Paying attention to detail and encouraging personal contact and meaningful, constructive collaboration with owners, our team listens to the needs and requirements of each client, with the aim of offering solutions to even the most particular architectural challenges, creating unique projects that reflect the distinct vision you have for each of your spaces.
