Family holiday home
Renovation, Expansion

Giorgio Home
The story of this particular project began when a couple from Italy fell in love with the island of Mykonos. Since then, they have visited it every year and recently decided to have their own holiday home to spend the summer months of the year there with the new family member who was soon to arrive.
Thus, the Mykonos-based KS Project team was tasked with renovating and expanding an existing residence in a quiet and secluded part of the island, facing west, overlooking a truly ideal landscape. It is a small building with two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen and a bathroom, set in a long field with an entrance on the smaller side.
The owners’ main desire was to have their own secluded space within the house, which was in direct contact with the pool area. A necessary project requirement was also the design and configuration of outdoor gathering areas, so that they could invite their friends over for meals.
In short, the family wanted their holiday home in Mykonos to offer comfort and small luxuries, without losing the Cycladic, traditional element of the island home that is always ready to welcome friends. A lively house that they can use freely, full of guests and good spirits.
As a result, our team studied, designed and renovated the house with primary focus on the serenity of the space, the enjoyment of the Mykonos landscape and the creation of a friendly atmosphere, while ensuring the privacy of the couple.
The residence features a central corridor with uneven recesses serving as space for decorations, lamps, and seating. Starting at the entrance, the corridor extends to the back of the house, where the children’s room is located. The recess in the children’s room resembles a hideaway space, functioning as another toy for the child.
The playfulness of this particular wall is also carried over to the living room. This makes it a key element in the space’s decoration and illumination of the corridor, as the recesses act as gaps that allow natural light to enter the living room.
The northeastern part of the house was a dedicated space belonging exclusively to the couple. This unifies the bathroom, wardrobe, washbasins, bedroom and swimming pool in this order, with an imaginary line extending from interior to exterior.
In the exterior area around the house perimeter, small gathering spaces have been created: on the main side of the house, we can see the swimming pool right in front of the couple’s room, while on the other half of the same side there is a barbecue and a small seating area around an olive tree that already existed on the plot and was ultimately preserved, arranged on different levels.
As part of the renovation and reconfiguration of the building, we designed a small courtyard with a climbing bougainvillea on the northeastern side, to which the parents have access through their room once again.
In the backyard of the house is the central gathering place, with the large group table facing west.
Meanwhile, all the landscaped outdoor seating areas are unified by paths and steps that follow the slope of the land, creating small spots of greenery and rocky Cycladic decorations.
